Simple sailing fun: the Falcon in its habitat
Fittingly, the ship is called the Falcon, is slightly longer and wider and also cheaper. The entry-level version is expected to cost less than 15,000 euros

The Falcon was born in Grou in the centre of Friesland. This is hardly surprising, as this is also the natural habitat of its parent generation, the classic Polyvalken. Nevertheless, the Falcon is supposed to be very different from its close relative: sportier, more robust, more accessible. What has remained is the folding bulkhead, but otherwise the gaff rig and a closed aft cockpit have been dispensed with.

Keyword cockpit: large, free and geared towards sailing - and yet you can also spend the night there under a boom tarpaulin. The boat weighs 575 kilograms and is 6.80 metres long. With a draught of just under one metre and a width of 2.13 metres, the Falcon can also be towed to a holiday destination on a trailer. The 8.50 metre high mast has 23 square metres of sail. In a race version, the mast and cloths are larger, and a trunk at the bow ensures sufficient air in the semi-wind bubble.

The boat was the brainchild of Klaas Goos, head of Gooswatersport in Grou. His aim: "Fun on the water. Making the most of the little time we have. This also makes the boat ideal for charterers." The Falcon will be available from spring via www.falconsailing.nl.
